ABOUT DR. M

ABOUT MEAs an educational leader for over 10 years, I am committed to responsible leadership. My doctorate in school improvement and my successful experience as a director, principal, and instructional coach are attributed to having an asset-based mindset. I prioritize inquiry, data, and research to facilitate informed strategic plans best suited for the people I serve.Recently, I had the privilege of overseeing policy mandates aligning literacy and math with the Science of Learning. The large-scale initiative led to a notable increase in equitable instruction across the district. All students had access to quality instruction on foundational knowledge and skills critical to success by aligning assessments, curriculum materials, and professional learning plans. My experience as a principal in diverse urban schools led to notable student achievement growth and recognition. Each transformation resulted from our collective commitment to growth, data analysis, evidence-based instruction, and intentional effort to build a culture of high expectations and continuous development. As a first-generation college graduate and multilingual learner, I have personally experienced the life-changing impact of education. My leadership is rooted in this experience and the urgency to maximize educator growth needed to accelerate learning for all students, particularly for kids who depend most on our instruction.By fostering collaboration, providing targeted development, and using data to guide our decisions, we can create learning environments where everyone thrives.

Dissertation
Analysis of Policy Implementation: Improving Reading Outcomes for All Students" used a mixed-methods embedded research design to evaluate the impact of policy implementation on reading improvement. The study assessed district practices' alignment with the initiative, particularly focusing on professional development, instructional coaching, and systemic support. The research revealed that efforts significantly improved reading for kindergarten students but highlighted challenges such as limited understanding of the policy and the Science of Reading. It emphasized the need for ongoing professional development and a systemic approach to policy implementation to enhance collaboration among educators and improve reading instruction. These insights can enhance policy development, aligning initiatives with district-specific contexts to maximize impact in educational settings.

National Recognition 2023One notable accomplishment was spearheading long-term, large-scale initiatives to evaluate and revamp math and literacy programs, which benefitted over 15,000 students. We met and surpassed state mandates through meticulous analysis and sustainable enhancements, a testament to my adeptness in systems thinking and navigating organizational dynamics. These efforts were recognized by neighbor districts and literacy leaders, eventually leading to an invitation from Dr. Fierro to present via a National Webinar with over 6000 attendees.
